MLEU 2019: Our Roundup from Amsterdam

Last month, we flew over to Amsterdam for MagentoLive Europe 2019 to engage with the industry’s ecommerce leaders in Europe. I was joined by Adam Hindle (Managing Director) and Matt Edwards (Technical Director) to go and represent the Fluid team at one of the key Magento dates in our calendars. Here is my roundup from the few days we spent in the Netherlands and the key talks we went along to.

Day 1

We arrived to the beautiful city of Amsterdam on Monday 21st October to begin MagentoLive Europe 2019!

Magento Partner Summit

We started with the official Magento Partner Summit in the afternoon where speakers shared exclusive information with Magento partners about the exciting things that Magento and Adobe have in the pipeline, including their plans for cloud and the Magento 2 Commerce platform. They also shared some astonishing stats on the Magento network, including:

  • 1,100+ partners
  • 24,000+ Magento Meetup attendees
  • 12,000+ certified individuals

Next on the agenda was an evening party hosted by our wonderful tech partners, Adyen and Klarna. They put on a spectacular event at the famous A’DAM Tower which looks out on the impressive rooftop views Amsterdam has to offer. Flowing drinks, tasty canapés, and a great time to catch up with people in the Magento industry.

Day 2

On the second day, we started off the day at a Hands on Lab learning everything you need to know about local development for Magento Commerce Cloud. We found the session useful and confirmed the best techniques we have been putting into practice with our Magento 2 builds. Next for the day were the opening keynotes, where we learnt more about the exciting things ahead for the collaboration of Magento and Adobe products.

MagentoLive Europe 2019

The Fluid team then separated for the afternoon to go to various talks including, ‘Migrating from Magento 1 to Magento 2’, ‘Convert More Mobile Shoppers’, ‘Technical Track: Updates from Magento Marketplace’, ‘What’s new in Adobe Commerce Cloud’ and ‘What Does It Take to Win on Amazon’. All talks were very insightful and it was great to catch up with all things Magento (not forgetting a trip to the swag store to catch up with some of our technical partners).

In the evening we were treated to a delicious meal at the Roast Room hosted by our wonderful tech partners Klarna, Klevu, Dotdigital, and Nosto. This was a great networking event to meet lovely people from all areas of the globe, and discuss the world of ecommerce. To follow was the official Magento party at Beurs Van Berlage, which was a fantastic event with entertainers, a live band, celebratory drinks and food themes from around the world.

Day 3

The final day started with a networking breakfast. Then the Fluid team dispersed to cover all the interesting talks for the day including, ‘Commerce Best Practices’, ‘Best Practices for Managing and Optimising Google Shopping’, ‘Magento Product Recommendations’, ‘Setting Yourself Up with Page Builder’ and ‘Write Your Code in an Efficient Way’.

Page Builder Lab

We also attended the Page Builder and PWA studio hands on labs in the afternoon, which were great to get some practical experience with the exciting Magento products, and again confirm our own best practice techniques.

Preparing for Magento in 2020

The event was a fantastic setup for the Magento community as we begin to prepare for the next year ahead and we’re excited to bring what we learnt to all of our clients and retailers we meet to help maximise their success on the Magento platform. If you’re interested in learning more about how Magento 2 can help you grow, please do get in touch.
