2018 has been a big year for both Fluid Digital and the entire world of ecommerce. With so many new releases, changes in regulations and ecommerce trends, we’ve been busy keeping you all updated on our blog this year.

So, for our final blog post of 2018, we’re going to look back at some of our favourite Fluid Digital posts this year and discuss some of the biggest ecommerce changes of the year.

Discounted products

We kicked off 2018 by focussing on discounts for your ecommerce business. First of all, will having discounted products harm your business?

If used sparingly and in the right way, then no. Including discounts for bulk purchases or offering loyal customers a discount reward is a great way to keep people coming back. However, regularly adding, changing and removing discounts on products can make your site seem untrustworthy and make customers question the quality of your items.

Here are our top tips when it comes to using discounts on your ecommerce store:

  • Don’t add too many
  • Target different customer groups
  • Set discount goals
  • Promote your promotions
  • Use discounts to generate interest in other products

Magento is GDPR compliant

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you’ll be aware of the regulation changes for data protection in the EU. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was rolled out on 25th May this year, aiming to provide individuals with more rights over their personal information.

Before GDPR came into force, Magento made the necessary changes to ensure that they were fully compliant. Along with updating their privacy policy, they obtained a Privacy Shield certification to show their dedication to the new rules.

Google AdWords to Google Ads

In July 2018, Google made huge changes on their advertisement platform. They rebranded their AdWords platform to Google Ads, with several key changes:

  • A new overview page
  • Renamed tools with improved features
  • Streamlined shortcuts
  • An effective audience manager
  • Responsive ads

The platform should still be easy to navigate, with all existing advertising campaigns unaffected, but be sure to read our blog post to get fully clued up on all the improvements.

Conversion Rate Optimisation series

One of our key specialities at Fluid Digital is conversion rate optimisation (CRO). But it’s something a lot of ecommerce companies aren’t so familiar with. That’s why we produced a 4-part series explaining all of the key aspects of CRO.

Discovering what CRO is and why it’s important, understanding the basics and constructing a CRO test for yourself are the first three posts for you to check out. Or, simply take a look at the beginner’s guide to CRO for an overview of the complex, yet essential, tactic that can help to transform your business.

New Google Ad metrics

With the shake up of Google AdWords and the introduction of Google Ads in July, many users were left confused as to the metrics surrounding their ad campaigns. So, as always, Google made the necessary changes to boost customer satisfaction.

The new Google Ad metrics allows users to look clearly at how well their adverts are doing and where they are being placed on the search engine results page. Want to learn more about the changes? Take a look at our blog post from November.
