The client

A hairdressing wholesaler, Salon Business Solutions was started by four friends who noticed a lack of support from suppliers and sought to do something about it.

Over the years, they have built a large customer base with many people within the industry and understand first-hand the challenges salons face every day.

The brief

Salon Business Solutions wanted to work with a dedicated B2B ecommerce agency to grow their business.

They contacted Fluid Commerce as they were struggling to moving forward with their Magento Open Source website projects with their current agency.

They were facing security issues but found it difficult to get even the smallest of changes and bugs resolved. Communication was poor and there was no task system to track progress.

The priorities

The site needed upgrading to the latest version of Magento Open Source as the security risk was very high. The previous agency was struggling to resolve issues and the upgrade had been ongoing for nearly a year.

A server upgrade was also in progress in line with the Magento upgrade, which needed to be managed in partnership with the hosting provider.

The team had also not received training on using the platform which meant product, catalogue and content were all managed by the agency. This then limited the development hours available for progressive change.

The work

In the first few months of working with the client, we:

Onboarded Salon Business Solutions into development support
Completed and fixed the upgrade and added the latest security patch
Upgraded all modules to the latest versions
Migrated the production environment to a better-performance cloud server
Fixed issues with incorrect data on the new environment
Fixed long-standing issues within the first week, specifically the Affiliate Scheme generating additional business
Enabled new payment methods
Klaviyo integration
Enabled 2FA for admin users
Implemented new shipping rules
Provided Magento training for the client
Established a weekly call session and provided 24/7 reporting on tasks

Results

Fluid Commerce successfully stabilised and upgraded Salon Business Solutions’ Magento Open Source website, improving security and performance while resolving long-standing technical issues.

The implementation of a structured task management system and weekly check-ins significantly enhanced communication and operational efficiency.

With training, and a more reliable ecommerce platform, the business can now manage products and content in-house, freeing up development resources for strategic growth.
